someone saw your telekinesis going whacked, and i know headaches because i know what trying to control telepathy that doesn't ever turn off does to your head. i also know it hurts like hell when you try to force mental powers to work before you're ready for it
i can teach you how to block the other voices out without making your head explode
[ and he's just going to really hope that's accurate. the no off switch thing, from what kaneda said about headaches and screaming. pretty sure telekinesis doesn't do that. plus what he knew about verity's problem with it, and the fact thomas is actually special in being able to shut his power off. if not, welp, sorry, kaneda, he's bad at keeping secrets. ]
[His best guess, really - it could have been anyone from his house. But Kaneda was the one who never, ever stopped messing with his life or getting himself involved. Didn't they agree on the first day to stay out of each other's way?
someone on the network looking for help with psychic powers.
[ welp not like mewtwo said anything about 'don't say it was me', so, yolo. underside of bus, meet pokemon.
okay but at least head explosions got him back on topic. ]
figure of speech, though, with telekinesis, who knows. trying to block stuff out when you don't know how is more like slamming your head against a wall. harder you try, worse the headache gets. same with trying to broadcast.
[That sounds pretty much exactly like what he's experienced. And while there's a part of him that really DOES want to break down and ask for help -- it still means he'd have to ask for help.
Let someone else show him what he's doing. Take away any kind of progress he might make on his own.]
[He almost writes 'how am I supposed to know how to do that', then pauses. Scowls at the screen. He already has someone he practices the other stuff with. But ... not how to do that.]
[ instead of texting, he just searches him out. another telepath is easy to find, especially one who doesn't know how to hide themselves yet, and he's only within the city, it seems. ]
Yes.
[ he speaks into Tetsuo's mind, but doesn't dig, doesn't read thoughts. doesn't pry, because ethics. and he's trying to get this guy to trust him, or at least work with him.
as for thomas, though, he's established a mental connection between them only so far that tetsuo can get that thomas's mind is protected. trying to get in will be like slamming up against a steel wall. more in-depth picking will give him a sort of mental landscape like a monolithic maze, with steel walls going up and up and up to a sky that can never be reached. it's cold and silent and offers nothing. ]
[[ ooc; durr plurk is down or i'd just ping you for this, but emma taught thomas how to do a mental block in terms of mental landscape stuff, and there's more details about it on his permissions, in the mental info section, second paragraph. :B feel free to shoot me a pm or AIM me if you have a question! ]]
haha I need to figure out how to actually format texting someday
[It was a pretty quick challenge. A thoughtless one, actually, but Tetsuo never thinks things through. He's not sure what he was expecting; somehow, that wasn't it.
It's like it was earlier, with Akira, a voice suddenly there in his head... but this time, it doesn't come with a billion flashes of ideas and images and nightmares. It's just a word.
Any smugness vanishes instantly. Any sense of challenge dies off equally instantly.
Holy. Shit.
He pauses for a while, realizes there's nothing more to that, and finally texts back. It feels incredibly dumb to have to text someone when you can just do that. It really does. To the point where he resents having to- but he doesn't know how to follow the chain back to Thomas. And now he has to know how, because he's not going to let some asshole be able to do that without being able to do it back]
show me how to do that
right now
im not texting you anymore screw that
aww,it's easy, i just use your text goes here :3
[ freaking finally, some progress with this kid. thank you, teresa, for kicking his ass until he nailed this telepathy thing. at first, he does send text. ]
first of all, don't order me around or i'm not teaching you anything
i'll teach you the block first. you need that more.
[ but after that, he's switching back to telepathy. ]
Just think loud, with purpose, or just say it out loud like I'm there. I can hear you like this. But you'll need to build up range before you can do the same thing I am.
THANK YOU I'll switch out formats in future things
[Ooookay then. Tetsuo opens his mouth, closes it. No, he's not going to talk aloud when the person he's talking to isn't there. No. Not gonna do that. Someone here might hear it.
Fortunately, thinking loud and with purpose is a strong point of his. As is testing things.
[ this sort of thing he does all the time with grey and teresa, though each of those are so comfortable with him they don't mind if surface thoughts are read along with the conversation, and thomas isn't worried about prying too much.
with this guy, he'd rather not hazard it, out of respect. what he's trying to do instead is just 'listen', basically. establish a channel. so that means tetsuo will have to put a little more purpose in the words. which, he does. good job. ]
You're asking me what you're thinking. Which, I don't know outside of this. I'm not actually reading you. It's kind of a weird balance, but you learn how much you want to dig and how not to eventually.
